The 4 acre site was one of the last in the forested hills available for residential development. It was very hard to access, not to say to build anything there. The house was built on the top of the site to catch spectacular views of the city. This allowed the most efficient structural design as well as making the main level of the house a perfect square, achieving maximum floor area for minimum wall area.
